F1: no German GP in 2015 as Grand Prix’s future thrown into doubt

The future of the F1 German Grand Prix hangs in the balance, after speculation it may not feature on the 2015 calendar.

An agreement had previously been reached with Formula 1 to alternate the home of the German Grand Prix over several years.

This meant on alternate years, the race would be held on both the Hockenheimring and the Nurburgring circuits.

Hockenheim held the race in 2012 and 2014, with the Nurburgring hosting the race in 2013.

The agreement was initially reached to ease the financial burdens for both circuits of hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix.

However, the German Grand Prix has now been pulled from the 2015 calendar, after discussions with Hockenheim to host this year’s race fell through.

The news means that despite the bold presence of German drivers and teams in the sport such as quadruple World Champion Sebastian Vettel, Nico Hulkenberg, and Nico Rosberg – as well as the Mercedes GP team for which Rosberg drives – there will be no race in Germany for the first time since 1960.
